Matt Wallen joined United Way of the Midlands (UWM) as Senior Vice President for community impact in 2019, leading the strategic investment of financial and non-financial resources to create the greatest possible impact in helping improve outcomes for individuals and families. As Chief Operating Officer, he leads UWM’s program work, including Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Nebraska, the 211 Helpline and the Court Referral and Community Service Program (CRCSP). Wallen develops the long-term vision for each of the programs and oversees its day-to-day operations. With the State of Nebraska being a pivotal partner in each program, he maintains strong relationships with state agencies and the Nebraska Legislature, and he is also responsible for UWM’s Public Policy Committee and JAG Committee.

Prior to joining UWM, Wallen served as chief of staff and director for the Division of Children and Family Services (CFS) at the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). As chief of staff he worked directly with the CEO on guiding day-to-day operations, leading priority projects within the Department, and aligning division actions and communications in support of DHHS’ mission.

Wallen earned his B.A. from the State University of New York at Fredonia, his M.A. from George Washington University and a graduate certificate from the Federal Executive Institute in Charlottesville, VA.
