Anna Hasselblad (they/them/she) joined United Way Worldwide in 2024 and is the Senior Director of State Policy & Advocacy after serving as the Senior Director of Policy for United Ways of California (UWCA) for nearly 7 years. At UWCA she oversaw the state network’s advocacy efforts as well as worked on strategic initiatives around fundraising and programming. Anna has 20+ years of experience in the nonprofit sector.

Prior to their tenure in the United Way Network, Anna was the Director of Public Policy & Special Projects for the Steinberg Institute, where they focused on advancing mental health policy. Previously, Anna was the Deputy & Policy Director for California Coverage & Health Initiatives (CCHI) where they designed programming, engaged in advocacy, and fundraised on behalf of CCHI’s statewide membership of CBOs that worked to ensure affordable health coverage and care for all. Anna also worked on reproductive health policy and quality improvement initiatives at the American Congress of Ob/Gyns District IX. Additionally, they dealt with constituent concerns for California’s then Senate President Steinberg, before assisting with research and policy development for the California Senate Select Committee on Autism & Related Disorders.

Before Anna delved into policy, they were a direct service provider for over 5 years with children and families experiencing behavioral health crises, overseeing teams that supported integrated services in a variety of residential, educational, and community settings.

Anna is based in Sacramento, California and has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Pacific Lutheran University. In her free time Anna enjoys gardening, reading, creating art, volunteering with LGBTQ+ and nature conservation efforts, and being with loved ones.
