Gehrig Haberstock
Manager, Shelter Resident Transition
American Red Cross
Gehrig Haberstock grew up in rural Missouri in a military family, including 5 years in Germany. Earning a Bachelor and Master of Social Work from Harding University and the University of Denver, he has served within the American Red Cross’ Disaster Cycle Services since 2015. His journey started as a volunteer, including 5+ years in field level roles, and has served as the Manager, Shelter Resident Transition, supporting disaster responses across the U.S. and U.S. territories, for the last 3 years. In these roles, he has become an Assistant Director of Operations (the Red Cross version of an Ops Section Chief), has led volunteer teams across the urban-suburban-rural-frontier spectrum, and has been the driving force for the Red Cross’ Shelter Resident Transition service since its formal inception in 2018. A few quick fun facts about Gehrig: he co-authored a book chapter on Animal-Assisted Crisis Response; married his beautiful bride in May 2023; completed the Tour Divide – a 2,700+ mile bike race – in 2022 on a single-speed mountain bike; summited Mount Rainier in 2021; loves investing in his community and the people in it; and, happily calls big, beautiful Wyoming home.
