Mark Smith is the Manager of Financial Security at United Way Suncoast, where he leads the Bank On Suncoast coalition across a five-county region in Florida. With close to three decades of public sector, nonprofit, and legal experience, Mark has built a career around advancing economic equity and opportunity for underserved communities. He is a certified Accredited Financial Counselor® (AFC®), committed to helping individuals and families build financial stability and long-term security.
Mark is currently spearheading the development of a Local College Access Network (LCAN) in DeSoto County, Florida, focused on integrating Bank On with postsecondary access and increasing FAFSA completion rates.
Previously, Mark served as Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Greenfield, Massachusetts, and held leadership roles with behavioral health, workforce development, and alternative staffing organizations. His background also includes legislative and executive service at the Louisiana Department of Economic Development and the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism.
Mark earned his Juris Doctor from Southern University Law Center and holds a B.A. in U.S. History from the University of Rhode Island. His work is guided by a belief in the power of collaboration, systems change, and inclusive economic growth to build resilient communities.
